Im Zentrum von München befinden sich der Marienplatz und das Rathaus, von dessen Turm täglich das berühmte Glockenspiel ertönt. Als Herzstück von München ist das Gebiet natürlich auch ein wichtiger Veranstaltungsort. Alljährlich finden auf ihm der Münchner Christkindlmarkt oder die Feierlichkeiten des Traditionsvereins FC Bayern München statt. Auch historisch hat der Platz etliche Besonderheiten zu bieten. Dazu gehört das Alte Rathaus, welches Anfang des 14. Jahrhunderts erbaut wurde. Bis zum Jahre 1874 hatte der Magistrat der Stadt München hier seinen Sitz und noch heute wird der wunderschöne, gotische Saal bei Empfängen oder anderen Feierlichkeiten genutzt. Mehr über die Geschichte der Stadt können Besucher auch am Marienplatz 21 erfahren. An dieser Adresse steht das einzig erhaltene Gebäude aus der Vorkriegszeit. Ein weiteres Baudenkmal am Platz ist die Mariensäule, aufgestellt zu Ehren der Schutzpatronin.
Die Klimaanlage war ausgefallen (ausgerechnet in der heissesten Zeit). Das Hotel hat direkt angeboten, uns als Wiedergutmachung das Frühstück zu offerieren. Beim Auschecken mussten wir zudem nichts für den Parkplatz und die Getränke aus der Minibar bezahlen. Das war mehr als kulant und eine sehr positive Überraschung. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Frühstück war sehr reichhaltig und schön präsentiert.
Auch beim Trinken müssen bestimmte Regeln eingehalten werden. Wichtig ist, dass nicht getrunken wird, bevor nicht ein „Prost“ oder „Zum Wohl“ erklungen ist. Meist obliegt dieses Privileg dem Gastgeber, allerdings kann der Trinkspruch auch von einem der Gäste übernommen werden. Es reicht auch aus, einfach nur das Glas zu erheben und mit dem Tischnachbarn anzustoßen. Derbe Trinksprüche sind ein No-Go, die in jedem Fall vermieden werden sollten.
