On this day in 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt declared the Grand Canyon a National Monument. “Let this great wonder of nature remain as it now is,” he said on a visit to the Grand Canyon in 1903. “You cannot improve on it. But what you can do is keep it for your children, your children’s children, and all who come after you as the one great sight which every American should see.” The Grand Canyon would become a National Park in 1919.
Munich is a winter and Christmas wonderland. The Christmas market on Marienplatz will be crowded, but it is a must-see. If you are into playing or watching the ice game of curling, check out the track in front of the Nymphenburg Palace. During Advent, hop aboard the Christmas tram (after buying a ticket!) to escape the cold. If the weather gets to be too cold, there are many spas in Munich, or you can also go to the Botanical Gardens. Take a 2-hour drive from the city to the highest mountain in Germany, the Zugspitze. Once there you can go hiking or skiing and enjoy the views. The roads within Munich can be traversed in a luxury sedan, but if heading out of the city, an SUV or 4-wheel-drive vehicle with winter tires is recommended. And be sure to check the availability of ski racks.
Der Englische Garten war sehr schön. Es hatte frisch geschneit und zeigte sich ein fröhliches winterliches Treiben dort. Kinder sind an einem Hang Schlitten gefahren und man wurde an vielen Stellen von freundlichen Schneemännern "begrüßt". Auch ein Besuch im Hofbräuhaus ist sehr empfehlenswert. Gerade auch weil dort so viele Touristen aus aller Welt einkehren und offensichtlich viel Spass an der bayerischen Lebensart haben. Wirklich lustig.
Freunde klassischer Musik sollten einen Ausflug nach München Bogenhausen unternehmen. Am Prinzregentenplatz liegt hier das Prinzregententheater, eine der größten Bühnen der Stadt. Erbaut wurde es zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts ursprünglich als Spielstätte für Wagneropern. Opern stehen auch heute noch regelmäßig auf dem Spielplan, darüber hinaus lassen sich von hier aus das Münchner Kammerorchester und zahlreiche Gaststars hören. Moderne Klänge präsentieren die Studierenden der Bayerischen Theaterakademie August Everding im zum Haus gehörenden Akademietheater.

Wir haben die Vorrundenspiele für die Handballweltmeisterschft in der Olypiahalle besucht. Der Olympiapark ist absolut besuchenswert, wir waren auf dem Fernsehturm mit herausragender Sicht, tollem Restaurant...haben Sealife besucht...und die Olympiahalle bei den 3 Spielen genossen.. Vorher Karlsplatz besucht und shoppen gewesen... Gegessen haben wir im Restaurant Asado Steak...alles super in München Laim und dann gibt es noch so viele tolle historische Gebäude zu besichtigen ..
