Erbaut wurde es zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts ursprünglich als Spielstätte für Wagneropern. Moderne Klänge präsentieren die Studierenden der Bayerischen Theaterakademie August Everding im zum Haus gehörenden Akademietheater.
